The Democratic Party and the teachers’ unions act as two mutually dependent bodies. For one, teachers’ unions depend upon legislative restrictions of private schools, charter schools, vouchers, and homeschooling, thus minimizing competition. On the other hand, the Democratic Party and its politicians rely on the votes of those in the teachers’ unions, for the votes of teachers alone can often overcome opposing positions and politicians.
